60 MInute Portraits .png

During Quarantine I began a process series called 60 Minute Portraits. Consistently for two months of the lockdown I painted everyday, sometimes twice a day, as in intensive skill building regimen.

I’ve been completing portraits within 60 minutes to work on establishing the key features of faces at a glance. The idea is not so much about speed but capturing the essence of the person and not “overworking” the painting; essentially stripping down the process of portrait painting. There are so many parts of a piece I could “fix” but the point of these quick portraits it to get past perfectionism.
