an exercise in flow,
catharsis.
A stream of consciousness, is a lucid process of allowing the subconscious brain lead written expression without interference from the egoic mind.
This form of catharsis is free flowing and dynamic.
Free flowing yet my stream of conscious practice is confined by the 11 x 17” space containing it.
Each sheet is prepped with a chosen colour and then days or weeks later, in the midst of overwhelming feeling - whether joy, boredom, anger, angst - I choose the suitable canvas and write until the paper ends.
I’ve come to learn that a huge part of wellness is mindfulness. In the practice of mindfulness, journaling is a quintessential tool. Journaling allows you to express your inner most feelings and thoughts without judgement or fear of anyone else seeing it. It prompts self-reflection and promotes mental clarity.
My aim is that these pieces demonstrate how we can honour the full range of human emotion in our daily lives. This can be achieved through journaling and vulnerability - the willingness to be open and honest. I believe this practice is incredible for everyone at all stages of life and my hope is that through sharing emotional experiences others can feel safe to open themselves to their own truth as well.
